Exam reviews

Bah, haven't written here in ages. though the bulk of my exams finished 3 weeks ago ( I only have Prolog to do on Wednesday then my course finishes for the year) I never got the chance to write any more. Mainly because I'm either out and about or doing something else.

The exams on the whole has gone pretty sub-standard in comparison to my hopes earlier in the year. Ever since I opened a past paper back in March I knew I was on the path of failing if I didn't act fast. There is no warning in uni, no pre-emptive talk from your lecturers about how hard they were or how much you need to work, heck they may not even teach you everything you need to know. Fact is you have no idea how much you actuallu know till you see a past paper which was shocking. Mainly because at uni they don't test you continuously you are 'expected' to self-study. The lecturer babbles quickly theough pages of notes, the clever ones understands it straight away, the others should re-read the notes and ask for help.

Luckily for me I had plenty of people to ask, my friends were there and we gathered into groups to study. If I didn't understand something, somebody else most probably would or at least see something that I've missed. The weeks leading towards the exams got worse, as the number of hours revising...no the number of hours learning the course went up to 14 hours per day or more.. Fortunately the library at Imperial is open 24hrs and there's tonnes of other people doing all niters (some even taking pillows just to get the extra few hours) so staying up till 3-4am revising wasn't out of the norm here.

My results? they come out on the 2nd of July, I didn't do well but to not pass the year will seriously put me down considering the hell I've been through to try and make up for things. I'll probably have to re-take one or two exams (Maths because I didn't RTQ, Computer Architecture because the lectuer changed the paper format and nearly everyone screwed up big time). My pass mark was 30% per paper and 40% for the total average, this seems low and certainly did to me at the start of term...but hell getting those marks is not easy....

She left a piece of metal in my tooth...(16/04/07)

Went back home on Sunday, watched Curse of the Golden Flower, it was pretty good. The choreography was very well done but it lacked something more to make it an epic film. The fight scenes were well done, pretty cool when the ninjas flew down from the mountains with rope and a shoot of bamboo. Felt depressed watching the army get destroyed when they got trapped by the siege towers and archers...

I had the final treatment of my tooth this morning but apparently a small complication occurred along with some bad news. The tip of an instrument broke off in the middle of my tooth, she can't get it out so it's now a part of my tooth. That wasn't the bad news (tbh I don't think it's a big deal), the bad news is that te tooth will need a crown in 6months costing a total of .... £194! T_T That's so freakin expensive....

Bah no time to worry about that now though unfortunately, after dinner I had to pop back into the library to study. It's funny to see how at Imperial College, working in the library during the middle of the night (2,3,4am), and seeing rows of desks filled with students studying/ sleeping (from over studying) is actually an everyday thing.....

Changing Fortunes - 14/04/07

Hmmm had a haircut from Hands after revising some Operating Systems (they cut my hair really short but I kinda like it). I met up with Huan and George in China Town, George was back from kendo and was carrying a heavy bag containing his armour, Gi and shinai (kendo must've improved his stamina then). We ate quickly and left for the journey far north to see Jon and Charlotte's play 'Changing Fortunes'. We arrived at the station late (guess we spent too long eating) but we didn't miss much of the play. There was a large turn out of ppl including my cousin Fiona, Connie, SongYang, Chanel , Antonio and the large 'I love Char & Jon' fan club etc

Actually during the interval, some lady came to us and asked 'Who's Jon's friend?' Sammy (leader of the fan club) said 'Me me me!'. The lady from the staff then surprisingly said 'Well will you guys shut the f up!' Sammy's head went down instantly, next came a long scolding from her for being too loud etc, I personally think she went overboard with it but then again that reflects the amount of stress the staff is going through.

The play itself was well performed, the dancing was good (esp at the end with the colour changes) and so was the acting. The main area I think could be improved on would be the plot but considering the play was done in a few months it was certainly better than what most people would be able to pull off in that short space of time. Jon's performance as the Chinese pop star was funny, esp when he was teaching the dance moves to Esther (played by Charlotte) and when he did the cool show after talking to his manager.

Afterwards we met the cast of the play, and some us went to a local pub to sit, chat , play cards and have a few drinks. Later though, George, Huan , SY and I got lost and spent the next hour or so looking for Woodside station...didn't find it till 11.30 =_=

Random Pancakes - 12/04/07

2am in the morning...after revising for several hours in the labs the idea of having pancakes somehow randomly popped into my head. So I gathered some ppl, took their ingredients and had what one would call a very early breakfast.

Revision and the Root Canal Treatment

For the majority of the past two weeks I've been mainly stuck in my room trying to revise so I won't fail the year. Sighs....though there's not so much to remember (relative to other courses i think), it is very difficult to understand the topics. Hopefully I'd be able work out the questions in the exams.

There are times when all I seem to do is worry but in the end thoughts like these are unproductive and doesn't really solve anything in the end. All I can do is really push it and give it my best~ That was my theory behind my A2s and well...it worked (though I was more worried about it then, I had got BCC in my AS so I had loads to do to catch up ).

i've been out once or twice but I beleive they were necessary, since at halls there's nothing else to do for fun/relaxation. And if you don't take a breather once or twice I'm sure I'd go crazy (though some ppl have taken l

The consquences are still as serious as before, if I fail then that's it really, everything collapses. My family will disown me and only main quality I have.... will be gone.

My friend's seems to be quite stressed about her java exam, literally during her exams she's instructed her parents to bring cooked food (from Orpington - near Kent/Swanley) to Notting Hill every two days so she doesn't have to cook and just work O_o

Oh today I had a tooth cleaned out, the first phase of the root canal treatment is completed. (I had to have RCT done because one of the nerves in my teeth was reacting badly). The operation wasn't too painful but i'm glad the first part is over.

Well back to work....
